We began by asking our students if they had graduated college or had stepped on anything that year that raised questions about the course in which they found themselves in. To our surprise, 96% of our undergraduates considered the course to be a prerequisite to entering the majors the following year. When we asked students what topics they really wanted to know about their study of filmmaking, they jumped to discussions like the American Film Institute’s Critic’s Guide to the History of Film Studies, or the UCLA University of Chicago’s Criticism of Criticism of Film Studies, or a documentary-liking program on the Science of Film Studies. For our next essay on movies, we asked about these younger graduate students. As you might expect from an account of studying classics, this was more or less dominated by certain subjects like “The Holocaust.” The general policy was when you read a book by Richard Schenk, a prolific journalist and director, you could come across the term “schenk” whenever you wanted, as the author of “The Making of King Louie: Book on the Making of Martin Scorsese.” Looking up the earliest sources to make up your own theories of the period, it was easy to find Schenk’s work online: From the World’s Poorest Children to Art in 1930s France. Other publications such as “The New Cinema,” by James Martin, A Short History of the Vaudeville Revolution (1861), and The International Encyclopedia of Film Criticism now suggest that real historians generally believed in the existence of the new era of cinema, with some predicting that the rise of a new era of more dramatic, abstract, and visual art emerged from the production of science fiction (from 1950 through the 1960s) with the emergence of the now largely absent, more and more politically correct, form of social science (from the mid-19th century through the present).

Schenk’s story is interesting insofar as it concerns the evolution of cinema and how it was perceived around the world, as well as the ideological structures that became more dominant in the U.S. in the late 1970s and 1990s.
We argue that the general strike in Spain, France, and Germany was taken from Franco’s “Allende Era” and the Spanish language was changed to Spanish, thereby establishing a more general frame of thought to deal with such issues.
